Osun LG Funds: APC warns NLC against strike, UBA picketing

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has cautioned the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) against its planned three-day sympathy strike over withheld local government allocations.

It would be recalled that Osun NLC, in a communique signed by its Chairman, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, had declared a sympathy strike from midnight of Sunday, November 8, to midnight of Wednesday, November 11, 2026, to be followed by picketing of United Bank for Africa (UBA) branches across the state from Thursday, November 12.

But the APC, in a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, described the planned action as illegal, counterproductive and capable of breaching public peace.

Olabisi said legal and administrative disagreements over local government leadership should be addressed through institutional channels, not industrial action and bank picketing.

“Being a labour leader does not make someone to be above the laws of the land; it should not be a licence to brazenly promote crises,” he said, adding that the NLC leadership should be held accountable for any breakdown of law and order.

The party argued that while protecting workers’ salaries and pensions is legitimate, the NLC failed to consider the legal questions surrounding the leadership of the councils and disregarded the rights of reinstated elected APC chairmen and councillors.

It accused the Osun NLC of allowing partisan considerations to influence its position, describing it as an assault on local government autonomy introduced by President Bola Tinubu to bring development to the grassroots.

The APC called on security agencies to wade in and urged the NLC national secretariat to intervene to prevent the state chapter from being used for political ends, while insisting that UBA be allowed to operate in line with lawful directives.
