The wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, has stated that the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI, Food Bank was established to alleviate poverty, reduce hunger and empower vulnerable Nigerians, particularly women, persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
Hajiya Shettima stated this on Thursday in Osogbo at the donation and official handover of food items worth several million naira for people living with disabilities in Osun State.
The Vice President’s wife, who represented the First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the RHI, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, explained that the food bank, which has already been launched in 30 states, is aimed at improving the living conditions of underserved communities across the country.
Items distributed at the event held at the Government House, Osogbo, included spaghetti, groundnut oil, semolina, sugar, noodles and other edibles.
In her remarks, the First Lady of Osun State, Titilola Adebusola Adeleke, reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to uplifting vulnerable groups, noting that being physically challenged should not deprive anyone of legitimate rights but should attract more support.
Mrs Adeleke acknowledged the positive impact of the RHI in supporting elderly citizens, empowering petty traders, promoting agriculture and food security, and improving education and healthcare.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, commended Senator Tinubu’s visionary leadership, describing the programme as a laudable intervention that aligns with his administration’s agenda of poverty alleviation, food security and improved social welfare.
