The Media Unit of the Office of the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi, has condemned the killing of its security officer, Mr. Sunday Adedeji, popularly known as Portable.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the unit said Adedeji was murdered in cold blood when unknown armed assailants invaded the Senator Oyewumi Filling Station in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, operating under the BOVAS franchise.
The statement noted that the assailants broke into the station’s supermarket during the overnight attack and carted away goods and valuables worth millions of naira.
It disclosed that the incident was not the first attack on the facility, noting that days before the August 15 governorship election, armed men had attempted to burgle the station and attack the same guard.
“On that occasion, Mr. Adedeji barely escaped with his life after fleeing for safety, and the life-threatening incident was formally reported to the Police. It is heartbreaking that the danger foreshadowed by that earlier attempt has now culminated in his tragic death,” the statement said.
It described the late Adedeji as a dedicated, brave and hardworking man who was simply standing guard to earn an honest living.
The Unit appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to launch a comprehensive investigation to track down the perpetrators and called for heightened security measures across the state to protect lives and property.
“The blood of late Sunday Adedeji cries out for justice; the perpetrators of this barbaric act must be brought to account under the full wrath of the law,” it added.
