Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has promised to run an all-inclusive administration and pay special attention to youths, women, students, and rural development as the state marked its 35th anniversary today, August 27.
Adeleke, in a state broadcast, commended residents for their resilience and commitment to democracy during the August 15 governorship election, describing it as the toughest test the state has faced in 35 years.
He acknowledged the pains and sacrifices of the people in recent months, especially families who lost loved ones and those injured during the election crisis.
“I empathise with many families who lost loved ones. Your sacrifices and those of many who were injured will not go in vain,” he said.
Adeleke praised Osun people for defending democracy despite provocations, adding, “Amidst the reign of terror, you rejected the guns and embraced the ballot. By your conduct, Osun people demonstrated to the world that we are indeed the cradle of the Yoruba race, that we are people of valour and integrity.”
The Governor urged residents to remain law-abiding and avoid reprisal attacks as the state marks the anniversary.
“As we celebrate the anniversary of the creation of our dear state, we must not engage in violence,” he added.
Outlining his agenda for the new term, Adeleke said his government will build on achievements in infrastructure, digital economy, agriculture, education and healthcare.
He added that industrialisation, workers’ welfare, and ease of doing business will also receive attention.
