The Caretaker Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Osun State, Oyewale Kazeem, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, has appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke to respect the legitimate authority of his committee in the administration of motor parks across the state.
In an open letter on Wednesday posted on his official Facebook page, Oyewale said the appointment of his committee by the NURTW National President, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as Oluomo, followed the alleged expiration of the tenure of the previous leadership led by Nurudeen Alowonle, aka Ola Mummy.
Asiri Eniba stated that his committee was constituted by the national leadership of NURTW and not self-appointed, adding that the arrangement also received the support of the Osun State chapter of ALGON.
“It is therefore unacceptable for any individual or group to use force, intimidation or political influence to displace a duly constituted leadership,” he said.
He alleged attempts by members of the former leadership and their supporters to forcefully take over motor parks, which he said had resulted in confrontations, injuries and disruption of transport activities.
Oyewale urged Governor Adeleke to allow his committee to carry out its responsibilities without interference, while noting that any leadership dispute should be resolved through legal and institutional channels.
“An electoral victory should never be interpreted as a licence for anyone to disregard existing administrative or union structures. Democracy is founded on the rule of law,” he stated.
He also called on security agencies to protect lives and property and prevent the invasion of motor parks or attacks on transport workers.
