Mr Benjamin Adereti, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the August 15 Osun governorship election, has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of religious hypocrisy, saying the governor’s religious identity is unclear.
Adereti spoke on Sunday at the 70th anniversary celebration of Union Baptist Church in Osogbo where he said the APC is not using religion for politics, and that the party’s ticket was deliberately structured to reflect balance.
Speaking to the congregation, Adereti drew a comparison between the APC ticket and the Accord Party’s ticket.
According to him, the APC presented a Muslim-Christian ticket that represents fairness in religious representation.
He said, “I thank you for the privilege given me to be a part of this 70th anniversary celebration.
“As you all know, Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji, who is a Muslim, is our candidate in the APC, and I am his deputy and a Christian. Unlike the other party, whose governor we don’t know if he is a Christian or Muslim.”
Adereti also expressed confidence ahead of the poll.
“I am very optimistic that the APC and our candidate will emerge victorious on August 15. We are optimistic that the people are with us, and they will vote en masse for our candidate,” he added.
