The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it has commenced a 5-day technical training for key election managers in Osun State as part of preparations for the August 15 governorship poll.
According to a post on the Facebook page of INEC, Osun State, the training, organised by The Electoral Institute, TEI, began on Monday, July 6 and will run till Friday, July 10, in Osogbo.
Participants include Electoral Officers, EOs, Assistant Electoral Officers, AEOs, and Local Government Training Officers, LGTOs, from the 30 Local Government Areas and the Area Office in the state.
The post stated that the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, during her opening address, explained that the training is designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and sharpen their operational skills in line with INEC’s policies, guidelines and procedures.
She said the officers occupy strategic positions and serve as the Commission’s operational backbone at the local government level.
According to her, their leadership, technical competence and commitment will determine the success of the entire electoral process, from pre-election preparations to election day and post-election activities.
Babalola listed areas of focus to include election planning, logistics management, polling and counting procedures, result management, electoral technology, contingency planning, and coordination of election personnel.
The REC also tasked the participants with the responsibility of stepping down the training to other categories of election officials.
She noted that the quality of training delivered at the local government level will directly impact the preparedness of ad hoc staff on election day.
