The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, Osun State Command, has faulted a protest against the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, describing it as a staged demonstration sponsored by “self-serving and politically motivated elements” within the state’s political class.
A statement by the Chairman of the PCRC Caretaker Committee in Osun, Arakunrin Badmus Omoniyi Saburi, said the protest was not a genuine expression of civic concern but a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of a police chief whose only offence was insisting on professionalism.
“The so-called protest was nothing but a calculated attempt to malign the image of a highly professional and result-oriented Commissioner of Police whose only ‘offence’ is his refusal to succumb to political pressure, compromise professional ethics, or allow the Nigeria Police Force to be used as a tool for partisan interests,” Saburi said.
He noted that since CP Gotan assumed duty in Osun, the Command has recorded improved security coordination, proactive policing, and stronger community engagement across the state.
Saburi said the committee had closely monitored the Commissioner’s conduct and could attest to his commitment to fairness, justice, transparency and protection of lives and property.
“He has remained committed to fairness, justice, transparency, and the protection of lives and property,” he stated.
