Six princes from three royal families in Iwo, Osun State, have filed a N50 million fundamental rights suit against the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, at the Federal High Court in Osogbo.
The applicants are Prince Lekan Lamuye, Prince Ismaila Alade, Prince Mogaji Abese, Prince Adedoja Osunwo, Prince Fisayo Moloju and Prince Najeemdeen Adebayo.
Joined as 1st to 4th respondents are the Inspector General of Police, the Director of the National Cyber Crime Centre, NPF Abuja, police officer Abraham Uzah, and the Police Service Commission. Oba Akanbi is the 5th respondent.
The princes, through their counsel, Soji Oyetayo, alleged that the monarch used the police to intimidate and harass Prince Osunwo, who was arrested and detained over a petition.
They said the Oluwo had petitioned the police, accusing Osunwo of defamation, cybercrime and rights infringement during a press conference organised by the three ruling houses in 2025.
According to them, Osunwo honoured a police invitation to Abuja on August 13, 2025, and was detained for four days, which they described as inhumane treatment and a violation of his fundamental rights.
In their motion, they are seeking a declaration that the invitation, arrest and detention of the 4th applicant from August 13 to 16, 2025, over what they called a malicious and frivolous petition on a civil defamation matter, is unconstitutional and violates Chapter IV of the 1999 Constitution.
They also seek a declaration nullifying invitation letters issued to them on June 16, 2026, to appear at the Cyber Crime Centre in Abuja, and an order of perpetual injunction restraining the Oluwo from using the police to further harass or detain them.
The applicants further prayed the court to award N50 million as general damages for the loss suffered by the 4th applicant while in custody.
Justice Suleiman Amida adjourned the case till November 10 for hearing after the court was told there was no proof of service on the respondents.
