A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Prince Dotun Babayemi, has described as “mischief” attempts to link his name with “Imole”, the signature tune of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
Babayemi, who is the governorship campaign Director General of the APC for Osun West, was reacting to a Facebook publication by the spokesperson of the Imole Campaign Council, Barr. Pelumi Olajengbesi, in which he wrote: “Omooba Dotun Babayemi, God bless you. Imole to the world!”
The post, Babayemi said, triggered calls and messages from concerned party members seeking confirmation of the claim.
“Linking my name to Imole, the signature tune of Governor Ademola Adeleke, is nothing but mischief. This is because, since we parted ways, we have not met either openly or secretly anywhere. I challenge anyone to controvert this,” he said.
Babayemi also denied any link with Olajengbesi or the Imole political group.
“Again, whether remotely or directly, I have never met Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi to warrant linking my name, surreptitiously, to the Imole political group. I say this with all sense of responsibility as a staunch member of APC,” he stated.
He faulted the approach, saying politics should be guided by facts, not sentiment.
“Politics is never played on the basis of emotions and sentiments, but facts. As a lawyer, Mr Olajengbesi knows that these are sacrosanct and true to the law profession. So it will be disheartening if someone like him will condescend to the ‘jankara’ level of politics that his post represents. To what end?” Babayemi asked.
The APC chieftain reaffirmed his commitment to the party and its candidates ahead of the 2026 governorship and 2027 presidential elections.
“In APC today, by the grace of God, I am one of the major stakeholders in Osun State whose aim is to see to the victory of our candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), on August 15 gubernatorial election, and the reelection of President Bola Tinubu, come 2027.
“Together with my teeming supporters across the state, we remain solidly in APC, and that resolve remains unshakable. We have shouted this at the rooftop and behind the curtains, and so it is,” he added.
Babayemi concluded by urging politicians to maintain decorum.
“Once again, I want to advise that politics should be played decently, especially by the people who should know. At any point in time, I pursue what I believe in and believe in whatever I pursue. This, I believe, is the hallmark of integrity,” he said.
