Osun police arrest two over attack on station after colleague’s death

Two persons have been arrested by the Osun State Police Command over an alleged attack on its personnel at the Ijebu-Jesa division following the death of a final year student of Interlink College of Technology, Ijebu-Jesa.

It would be recalled that the victim, Oluwaseun Aderifa, a National Diploma 2 student of Mass Communication Department, died on Wednesday, when a Toyota Hummer Bus with registration number FST-644YL, hit him.

Providing an update on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said other students who felt aggrieved by the incident attacked the station and assaulted police officers on duty.

He said, “Immediately the information was received, police mobilised to the scene. In the course of trying to secure the accident scene, people began to gather and before we knew what was going on, they lit a lace bread with petrol and threw it under the bus.

“We were able to put out the fire and recover the vehicle to the station. But before then, two Divisional Police Officers and the town monarch had appealed to them to calm down.

“However, not long after the vehicle was moved to the station, some of them went to the Ijebu-Jesa division and attacked the officers there. They broke the vehicle’s glass and assaulted our officers.

“We arrested two of them, and an investigation is ongoing. Those arrested have been transferred to the headquarters in Osogbo.”
