Osun APC slams Assembly for linking REC redeployment to Oyetola

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has knocked the State House of Assembly over for linking the transfer of Dr Mutiu Agboke, the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, to Ondo State to the Minister of Marine, Mr Gboyega Oyetola.

The party, in a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, urged the assembly to focus on its primary responsibility of lawmaking and desist from getting involved in the internal matters of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The statement described the allegations against Oyetola as “unsubstantiated and frivolous,” noting that the transfer of staff and other related duties are statutory internal activities of the INEC leadership.

“Such transfer of INEC staff to another state should ideally not engender any furore, as it would not be the first time such is being carried out by INEC, and it could not have been effected outside the purview of the electoral laws regulating the activities of the electoral umpire.

“It is disgusting that the Accord Party, which is scheming for Governor Adeleke’s re-election, could disgracefully resort to shedding crocodile tears, having become aware of its dwindling popularity in recent times, when the local governments under the leadership of the APC are getting genuinely ready to bring real governance to the doorstep of the masses, compared with window-dressing street road repairs as proof of billions of naira received as allocations,” the statement read.
