Ex-Osun council boss dumps APC for Accord, says party leaders have derailed

A former chairman of Oriade Local Government in Osun State, Hon. Taiwo Fatiregun has dumped the All Progressives Congress for the Accord Party.

Fatiregun in a statement shared on his Facebook page, said the APC, under its present leadership, has derailed from democratic values and embraced anti‑people tendencies that undermine the collective interest of party members.

He alleged that the party has been hijacked by a few individuals who have pocketed its structure for selfish reasons, leaving millions of loyal and innocent members neglected.

The former council chairman also alleged that billions of naira in allocations meant for grassroots development are shared among a privileged few, while the masses are left with nothing.

The statement read,
“I wish to formally inform the good people of Oriade Local Government, political associates, supporters, and the general public that I have officially resigned my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Accord Party, the new progressive platform committed to genuine democracy and people-centred governance.

“This decision follows a long period of reflection and consultation. The APC, under its present leadership, has derailed from democratic values and embraced anti‑people tendencies that undermine the collective interest of party members. The party has been hijacked by a few individuals who have pocketed its structure for selfish reasons, leaving millions of loyal and innocent members neglected.

“Despite repeated efforts to engage the leadership at all levels for reforms, every attempt was met with resistance and disregard. As someone who served the people of Oriade as Local Government Chairman for five impactful years delivering landmark achievements that remain unmatched more than a decade later, I cannot continue to associate with a system that prioritises personal gain over public good.

“It is unacceptable that billions of naira in allocations meant for grassroots development are shared among a privileged few, while the masses are left with nothing. Even more troubling is the notion that a single individual claims to be the sole financier of the party, thereby attempting to mortgage the political future of millions.

“In light of these realities, I have chosen the Accord Party as a platform that respects internal democracy, values every member, and places the welfare of the people above all else.”

Fatiregun added that he will be officially joining the Accord Party on March 13, calling on his supporters to join him in his cause.

“I hereby call on all my supporters, admirers, and lovers of democracy across Oriade and Osun State to join me in this noble cause. Together, we shall build a stronger, fairer, and more progressive political movement. By the grace of God, we shall triumph in the coming elections.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I will be officially joining the Accord Party on 13th March, a date that also marks my birthday a symbolic new beginning for our political family,” he added.
