There are strong indications that the former speaker of the Osun state House of Assembly, Hon. Najeem Salam will fly the governorship ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at next year’s election in the state.
Impeccable sources within the ADC in Osun State confirmed to osun.life that plans are already in place to put the Ejigbo-born politician forward to challenge the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke who will likely recontest under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The sources said the National Secretary of ADC, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is behind the move to have the former speaker as the party candidate.
The source disclosed that although former Secretary to the Osun State government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, is still interested in being the candidate of the party, chances of Salam getting the ticket are very high.
The source who do not want their names in print because they were not authorised to speak, stated that Aregbesola sees Salam as someone who has a strong political base.
One of the source told the medium that the recent activities of the former Osun speaker clearly indicated that he is the preferred candidate of the ADC National Secretary.
The source said, “Aregbesola prefers Najeem Salam and bearing any unforeseen circumstances, the former speaker will get the gubernatorial ticket of the ADC.
“If you look at the recent activities of the former speaker, you will see clearly where the leadership of the ADC is looking. Hon. Salam recently visited Baba Amuda Obelawo as part of his consultation.
“Also, the elaborate birthday ceremony of the former speaker recently, where he was heavily guarded by security operatives, is an indicator of him being the anointed one.
“Although Alhaji Moshood Adeoti is interested in the ticket, I don’t think Aregbesola is looking in that direction. The former governor believes he has done well by the former SSG by picking him as the factional candidate of the APC during the last election.”
