Osun 2026: Clamour Grows For Babayemi To Run

By Michael Adeyemo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has heaped praises on the party a year after he rejoined the party from the Peoples Democratic Party.

This is coming on the heels of calls by many of his supporters who have described him as the surest bet to oust the incumbent regime of Ademola Adeleke.

Babayemi who in a Facebook message titled “A journey of Faith and Conviction” said “It is a year today that I chose to walk away from the PDP and embrace a more progressive path with the All Progressives Congress (APC). I chose structure over sentiment, action over rhetoric, and progress over politics-as-usual”

“Politics is never without challenges, but it has been a rewarding ride. I have met great minds, built new bridges, and grown stronger in service to the society. The APC is not just a party, it is a movement of thinkers, doers, and visionaries. I am proud to be part of it. I am thankful for every experience and everyone who embraced my political group as family. Let us keep building together.” he added.

In this direction, there has been
growing calls by many, in and outside the state, for him to join the race and return the APC flag and glory to the Oke fia Government House.

Many have described Babayemi as someone who embodies the strength, vision and integrity essential to guide the opposition party through challenging times.

Yinka Ojo Adeleke from Odo-Otin LGA captures him as the best choice whose dedication to community service and proven track record of effective leadership makes him the ideal candidate to navigate the complexities of governance and ensure that every voice is heard while Bashorun Adekanola Desmond from Ilie, Ward 11 of Olorunda LGA said “Having critically examined the anteceedents, character and the sincerity in the intentions of those jostling to lead our dear state, I found a lawyer and security expert, Omooba Dotun Babayemi as a viable candidate to help salvage our dear state to its glorious status.

Recall that the Gbongan-born Prince when he rejoined the APC had said ”Yes! As of today, the camp of Adeleke is in disarray. They are begging and moving about with money for us not to cross over to APC but it’s already a late call. When they had the opportunity, they were abusing us all over the place. They also started remembering leaders of the party hitherto denigrated to achieve this purpose with a joint call to reactivate the jettisoned Elders Forum. For us, our involvement in the APC will bear fruits as the party will have clean sweeps at the coming polls in 2026.”

The APC in Osun already has an array of aspirants looking to succeed Governor Ademola Adeleke of the PDP. Some of these aspirants include the immediate past Deputy Governor, Mr Gboyega Alabi, the National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, a former member of the National Assembly representing Osun West Senatorial District, Senator Mudashiru Hussain, a two-term member of the National Assembly representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Babajide Omoworare among others.

Babayemi’s entry into the guber race will definitely heighten the political temperature of the state as the people of Osun awaits the official timetable for the 2026 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
