Ministerial Screening: Aregbesola recommends heavy taxes for wealthy Nigerians

The immediate past Governor of Osun State and Minister-designate of the federal republic of Nigeria, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has said if given the opportunity, he would recommend serious taxation for wealthy Nigerians in order to solve the issue of multiple taxations in the country.

The Minister-designate told senators of the federal republic of Nigeria at the red chamber this afternoon while responding to a question how he could solve the issue of multiple taxations in the country.

In his response, Aregbesola said, he is going to pioneer a privilege taxation policy where those who have huge resources or wealthy Nigerians are going to be paying heavily in order to enhance redistribution of wealthy.

In his words, “we have left rich men in Nigeria without discharging their responsibilities to the citizens, particularly on taxation. I am going to pioneer privilege taxes for those who have huge resources or wealthy Nigerians”

The former Governor of Osun admitted that going into such an adventure would definitely create ill feelings in some quarters especially the rich people but he is unperturbed about it as he said he believes it would breach inequality between the wealthy and poor Nigerians.

Senators; Rochas Okorocha, Ajibola Basiru and Adelere Oriolowo, took time to eulogize the nominee, saying he’ll make a great addition to the Executive Council of President Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari had last week sent the name of Osun former Governor and forty-two (42) others as ministerial nominees to the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, for the confirmation of the red chamber in line with the provisions of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

By the virtue of the nomination, Aregbesola has taken the slot of his State, Osun, and put an end to serious lobbying that has trailed exercise since after the end of 2019 general elections.
