The Alawo of Awo in Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Abdulrazaq Taiwo Adegboye, has condemned traditional body incisions and other fetish practices, urging residents to put their trust in God rather than chase spiritual shortcuts to wealth.
Oba Adegboye made the remarks during a recent Islamic event in Awo, where he spoke against what he described as unwholesome indigenous practices.
The monarch, in a video circulating online, said since his coronation, he has not submitted himself to any traditional incision, challenging anyone with contrary evidence to come forward.
“From the day I was crowned as a traditional ruler, nobody can publicly testify that they have seen any traditional incision on my body. Anyone can come and testify if they have seen such on my body,” he said.
“I do not partake in any unwholesome traditional practice and incisions. Any of such incisions would just end up marking you for life,” the traditional ruler added.
He also advised traders and business owners to deepen their faith in God rather than spending their earnings on traditionalists in search of prosperity.
“You traders should stand with God. It is God that you should be calling and not wander about and give your hard-earned money to traditionalists who will end up swindling you,” Oba Adegboye said.
The monarch singled out market women, whom he said are often lured into such practices, questioning whether the shortcuts had made them wealthy.
“The practice is most common among our market women. Salvation is only in God and not man. Since you have been wandering about looking for shortcut to wealth, have you become millionaires?” he queried.
He urged the congregation to remain steadfast in faith and trust God for success and protection.
