The Osun State Government has inaugurated a Special Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation to strengthen enforcement of environmental laws and sustain a clean, healthy and habitable environment across the state.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, noted that the taskforce will be chaired by the Head of Service, Mr. Samuel Ayanleye Aina, with the Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, as deputy chairman.
Alimi said the core mandate of the taskforce is to tackle environmental infractions, particularly indiscriminate disposal of waste in drains, roadsides, road medians and other public places capable of causing environmental hazards.
He noted that government frowned at the indiscriminate littering of the environment with dirt and debris, warning that such acts pose serious health and environmental risks.
The statement charged members of the taskforce to carry out all enforcement activities diligently and in accordance with the law, warning that offenders would be prosecuted if found culpable.
It also urged the taskforce to remain committed to due process in the discharge of its duties.
Other members of the taskforce are the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi; Special Adviser on Political Matters, Alhaji Muniru Raji; General Manager, Osun State Waste Management Agency (OWMA), Mr. Oyewole Fatai Oladosu; Mr. K. K. Oyelami; Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Hon. Omoyele Isaac Adekunle; Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs.) Ayobola Fadeyi Awolowo; and Special Adviser on Market Affairs, Mrs. Eniola Omotoso.
The task force is to commence work immediately.
