The Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Olu Toriola, has congratulated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on this year’s Olojo Festival celebration.
Oba Toriola, in a statement issued on Sunday by Chief Kola Olabisi for the Chairman, Ogunsua Palace Media Committee, described the annual festival as a recipe for commerce and growth.
He said the Olojo Festival has remained a potent and verifiable unifying factor among natives of Ile-Ife and between the ancient town and other communities in Yorubaland and beyond.
According to him, the uncommon royal attributes of the Ooni have earned him the status of Ambassador of Peace, a role that has translated to development in the Source where, according to him, both birds and rats are not found wanting in their responsibilities.
The monarch congratulated the people of Ile-Ife for being blessed with an Ooni whose passion for peace remains unparalleled in contemporary history.
He commended Oba Ogunwusi for preserving and projecting the rich cultural heritage of Ile-Ife, noting that growing international interest in Olojo underscores the enduring relevance of Ife history and the need to safeguard indigenous traditions.
Oba Toriola said the festival’s impact on cultural tourism and its role in strengthening ties between Ile-Ife, Yoruba people and Africans in the diaspora cannot be overemphasised.
He also noted the surge in commercial activities in Ile-Ife and neighbouring communities since the festival began, driven by the influx of local and foreign tourists, and urged sons and daughters of the Source to sustain their partnership with the Ooni for peaceful co-existence.
The Ogunsua added that he will continue to pray with the chiefs and people of Modakeke for the Ooni, the royal houses, traditional institutions and the entire people of Ile-Ife for peace, unity, prosperity and sustainable development.
