The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, has cautioned against any plan to organise a parallel event alongside this year’s Ijesa Unity Carnival.
A post by one of the monarch’s media aides, Isaac Haastrup, stated that the traditional ruler gave the warning when the Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee paid him a working visit at his palace.
The monarch, while approving the committee’s proposal for the 2026 edition of Iwude Ijesa and Ijesa Unity Carnival, expressed satisfaction with the success of the last edition of the carnival.
He urged the 95 groups registered for this year’s homecoming event to embrace unity and cooperate with the planning committee for a more successful outing.
Oba Haastrup cautioned that no group should act against the general interest or organise a parallel show on the same day.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee, Chief Afolabi Igbaroola, disclosed that as part of efforts to expand the focus of Iwude Ijesa beyond cultural celebration, each group has embarked on a Community Development Project, with the best project to be commissioned by His Imperial Majesty.
The Ajirowa of Ijesaland, Chief Lateef Bakare, called on all sons and daughters of Ijesaland to rally around the Owa Obokun and the planning committee to ensure a grand celebration.
