Osun Police intercept Oyo-bound vehicle transporting cannabis, arrest 3

Operatives of the Osun State Police Command have arrested three suspects and intercepted a Toyota Sienna bus allegedly conveying substances suspected to be Indian hemp along the Moro-Ife Road.

The arrest was made on Saturday, August 30, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m. by officers of the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit, Team E, during a routine patrol, according to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi.

Ojelabi noted that the officers became suspicious of a silver-coloured Toyota Sienna Space Bus with registration number BGT 81 OLG, which had broken down and was abandoned by the roadside.

“While on patrol, the operatives observed the faulty vehicle and decided to investigate. Shortly after, the driver, Awo Omotayo, 38, arrived with a red Nissan Cabstar, EPE 299 YJ, driven by Abayomi Suleiman, 22, and one Oluwatayo Samuel, who claimed they came to tow the vehicle,” he said.

“A search of the Sienna revealed bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. The three men were immediately arrested, while the two vehicles and the Sienna were recovered and taken to the Command headquarters for investigation,” he added.

During interrogation, Omotayo allegedly said he was contracted by a man known as ‘Baba Ibo’, who operates around Garage Olode in Osun State, to transport the substance to Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
