The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has debunked reports that a former student of Osun State Polytechnic, Ademiju Ayeni, popularly called “Jago”, was stabbed to death at its recently concluded convention in Osogbo.
In a statement on Sunday, the NANS Zone D Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah, said no death occurred at the convention venue, stressing that the incident involving the deceased happened hours after the meeting ended.
Josiah explained that the convention was held within the controlled premises of the NUJ Secretariat, Capital Road, Osogbo, with accreditation handled by the Convention Planning Committee.
He added that personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, DSS and other security agencies were present throughout the exercise.
“The convention proceedings were also extensively documented through video recordings and live broadcasts, including TikTok Live, while the exercise received media coverage, including from national television. These records provide additional documentation of what transpired within the official convention environment,” he said.
According to him, an earlier verbal disagreement involving the deceased and some persons was observed outside the convention gate, but security personnel and stakeholders intervened, and it was amicably resolved.
“No stabbing was reported during that encounter,” he stated.
“Our fact-finding has established one important point which must be placed clearly before the public ,and that is: No student was killed inside the NANS JCC Osun Convention, and the available information does not establish that the fatal incident occurred during the official convention proceedings,” he added.
