Former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and other chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State on Sunday endorsed the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr Bola Oyebamiji.
Addressing journalists in the company of former Secretary to the State Government, Fatai Akinbade, and ex-South West PDP Vice Chairman, Taju Oladipo, Oyinlola said the endorsement was informed by the need for inclusive leadership and the overall interest of Osun State.
He clarified that they remain members of the PDP, adding that while party loyalty matters, the development of the state must come first.
“Let me start by saying we are not leaving the Peoples Democratic Party. Party loyalty is important, but the interest of Osun State must always come first,” he said.
The former governor faulted the current Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration for what he called a lack of inclusiveness.
Oyinlola appealed to PDP members and supporters to understand the move, stressing that it does not signal defection.
