The Osun State Police Command says the arrest of the Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, is connected to a shooting incident that occurred during a political rally in Ilesa.
The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said some personnel of the Osun Amotekun opened fire at the rally, causing panic and forcing participants to flee.
He added that some participants chased the suspects and one of those caught allegedly drew a knife and escaped.
“The matter was reported to the police and tactical teams, including the IRT, were deployed to different locations in Ilesa,” he said.
He added that police operatives who were later deployed to the scene intercepted a white Lexus 350 car.
“On intercepting the vehicle, they saw an Amotekun personnel and Hon Anjorin in the vehicle. So they apprehended the vehicle, the personnel and one other person in the vehicle,” Ojelabi stated.
The PPRO said exhibits recovered at the shooting scene included four expended cartridges, and the gun recovered from the Amotekun personnel was a pump-action gun.
He confirmed that three persons were injured at the rally and were taken to different hospitals.
