The Olojudo of Ido-Osun, Oba Olayinka Jokotola, has dismissed reports of a crisis within the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, insisting that traditional rulers in the state remain united under the leadership of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
Oba Jokotola made the clarification at the 2026 Osun Olojudo Festival held in Ido-Osun, where he described reports of division among the traditional rulers as unfounded.
The monarch cautioned social media users and content creators against spreading narratives capable of creating discord within the traditional institution.
“I don’t believe there is any crisis among traditional rulers. We all recognise the Ooni of Ife as our traditional leader across Yorubaland,” he said.
He alleged that some reports suggesting a split among traditional rulers were being circulated by social media users pursuing “different agendas”.
“Most of the stories about division are created by social media users who are trying to set a different agenda and create unnecessary narratives,” he added.
The Olojudo described the Ooni as the supreme leader of the Yoruba traditional institution and the foremost custodian of Yoruba culture and traditions.
“Historically, culturally and traditionally, the Ooni is the Supreme leader of the Yoruba traditional institution. He’s the number one custodian of culture and traditions in Yoruba land. Any other narration is just a fallacy that can’t stand anytime,” he said.
Oba Jokotola also urged the public to disregard reports about the creation of another traditional council in Osun State, particularly claims concerning senatorial councils of traditional rulers.
He explained that while regional groups may exist among monarchs for administrative purposes, they should not be mistaken for officially recognised traditional councils.
“My kingdom is in Osun West; I can tell you that there’s nothing like Osun West traditional council. Yes, there exist regional groups which are only for administrative purposes and not a council,” the monarch said.
He maintained that the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers remains the recognised council of traditional rulers in the state.
“For emphasis, there’s no other council except the one being led by our revered father, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council and the Co-Chairman of the Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council,” he said. NigerianBusiness Coverage
