The Olufon of Ifon-Osun, Oba Peter Akinyooye, has declared that culture remains a living force that heals communities and gives direction to leadership, and not a relic to be kept in a museum.
The monarch stated this on Tuesday at the grand finale of the 2026 Odun Ade Orolu Cultural Festival, where Ifon-Orolu indigenes gathered to celebrate their progenitor.
The event commenced with the monarch’s visit to the Obatala Grove, where he offered prayers for the unity, progress and protection of the kingdom.
Speaking at the grand finale, Oba Akinyooye said the festival is more than a ceremony, but a memory and identity that ties generations together.
The monarch said: “Culture is not a relic to be kept in a museum. It is a living force that heals our community and gives direction to our leadership.”
“Odun Ade Orolu is more than a ceremony. It is the memory of who we are and the thread that ties our generation to those coming after us,” he added.
Oba Akinyooye noted that the cultural festival is highly significant, especially in this era of rapid change.
“In this era of rapid change, we must hold on to our culture. It is what defines us and guides us,” he stated.
Oba Akinyooye prayed for a peaceful election on August 15, urging the electorate to go out and cast their votes peacefully without any rancour.
“As we go to the polls on August 15, I urge all sons and daughters of Osun to come out peacefully, vote peacefully, and let peace reign before, during and after the election,” he said.
