The immediate past Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has said the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, will prioritise improving the civil service rather than using it for political gains.
Owoeye stated this on Tuesday in Ilesa while reacting to a viral video in which part of his speech was allegedly edited to portray the APC as anti-worker.
He described the clip as mischievous, adding that it was doctored to distort a stakeholders’ meeting convened to mobilise grassroots support for the APC ahead of the August 15 governorship election and to ensure seamless governance at the local government level.
“My statement was not a threat or an attack on workers. It was a call to prioritise service delivery over partisan interests so that our people are not adversely affected,” he said.
According to him, the engagement emphasised that extreme partisanship by a section of local council workers undermines development and should be discouraged to prevent a repeat of the two-year strike that crippled grassroots administration.
The former Speaker, who is the candidate for Ilesa East State Constituency in the 2027 general election, described himself as pro-worker and reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to workers’ welfare across the state.
“Workers deserve better than what they have received in the last three years. The AMBO administration is ready to deliver,” Owoeye stated.
“Under the PROSPER Agenda, our flagbearer will empower civil servants through capacity-building workshops, training programs, incentives, loans, enhanced welfare and performance-based rewards. His focus is on improving the workforce, not weaponising it for politics,” he added.
Owoeye further said the APC-led federal government’s innovative approach to boosting allocations to states is what has sustained payment of workers’ salaries in Osun under Governor Ademola Adeleke.
He, however, accused the current administration of lacking a clear strategy for Internally Generated Revenue and of using civil servants “as pawns to score cheap political points.”
He urged Osun workers and other stakeholders to ignore the distraction and focus on electing Oyebamiji on August 15, 2026.
