Former Managing Director of Osun State Investment Company Limited, OSICOL, Dr Tunde Faleye, has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of lopsided distribution of infrastructure projects across the state.
Faleye said that the governor’s home base, Ede Federal Constituency, cornered nearly three-quarters of the state’s major capital spending in the last three and a half years.
Faleye, in a statement made available to journalists on Monday, said a review of 20 major projects worth ₦362.3 billion shows that 8 projects valued at ₦260.5 billion were executed in Ede Federal Constituency alone. That represents about 71.9% of the total value reviewed.
The All Progressives Congress chieftain said the remaining 12 projects worth ₦101.8 billion, or 28.1%, were shared among the other eight federal constituencies in the state.
He described the pattern as “an obvious bias” and “disturbing” for a government that claims to be working for all Osun people.
“Osogbo Federal Constituency, which houses the state capital, came a distant second with 3 projects worth ₦31.2 billion, representing 8.6% of the total. Ile-Ife followed with 2 projects worth ₦17.6 billion, 4.9%, while Ilesa had one project valued at ₦16.5 billion, 4.5%, he noted.
Faleye also disclosed that the Ilesa project was a dualisation of a federal highway undertaken by the state on behalf of the Federal Government, and that Abuja has already refunded ₦12 billion to Osun.
“Consequently, while the project is geographically located within Ilesa Federal Constituency, its funding arrangement differs and should be considered separately,” he said.
The statement further said, “Other constituencies got far less. Iwo received projects worth ₦9.8 billion, Ila ₦9.4 billion, Ikirun ₦9.0 billion, and Ijebu-Jesa two projects worth ₦8.0 billion. Ikire Federal Constituency was at the bottom with just one project valued at ₦29.97 million, 0.01% of the total.
“This data analysis indicates a highly concentrated distribution, with nearly three-quarters of the total project value located in a single federal constituency, while the other constituencies collectively account for just over one-quarter”.
Faleye questioned the motive behind the distribution ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election.
“Why would a Governor seeking a second term choose to be so self-serving and display such an apparent level of bias in the distribution of the state’s commonwealth? A government that genuinely desires the confidence and support of all its citizens should strive for fairness, equity, and inclusiveness.”
Faleye warned that if the first term showed such imbalance, “it is better imagined what a second and final term could mean for those federal constituencies that were so marginalised.”
He concluded that the choice before Osun voters “is not merely about personalities or political parties; it is about the kind of governance they wish to encourage. As the saying goes, a word is enough for the wise.”
