The Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress in Osun State have traded words over an allegation of a plot involving the police to influence the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The ruling party had in a statement by the state chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, accused the APC of collaborating with a section of the police command to secure accommodation for local electoral officers across the 30 local government areas.
The party claimed the facilities would be used as a “safe haven” to write results.
Akande noted that credible reports indicated the Osun APC met in Osogbo on Friday night and resolved to direct Divisional Police Officers through the Commissioner of Police to arrange accommodation for electoral officers in each council.
But the APC, while reacting through its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, described the allegation as false and a product of fear.
The statement said the claim exists only in the imagination of Accord leadership ahead of the poll.
“The allegation is false, and it exists only in the imagination of the leadership of the Accord Party in Osun State. It is borne out of the fear of the imminent loss of the party’s governorship candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the forthcoming August 15, 2026 election,” Olabisi stated.
The APC accused Accord of manufacturing reasons to justify defeat and of injecting lies, falsehoods and subterfuge into governance.
Olabisi insisted the APC candidate does not need to rig, describing him as “a serious contender with a mission to flush out the incumbent Governor Adeleke from the Bola Ige House through the election.”
Also, the Independent National Electoral Commission debunked the claim.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said all ad hoc staff and officials would be accommodated at designated RAC centres a day before the election.
“It is not likely to be true, because we have our RAC centres, and that is where our ad hoc staff are going to be accommodated with all the things that we need. Not only will the ad hoc staff be there, but the security agents will also be there,” Amupitan said.
