Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved Tuesday, July 28, 2026, as a work-free day for public servants to enable them to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
According to a circular signed by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, the holiday applies to all categories of workers, including staff of the state civil service, local government employees, and workers in tertiary institutions across the state.
Aina said the decision was taken to allow public servants to fulfil their civic responsibility during the upcoming election and subsequent polls.
The government, however, noted that workers on essential services such as health workers and security operatives should make internal arrangements to ensure that critical services are not affected.
Governor Adeleke also called on informal sector workers and all registered voters to use the period to collect their PVCs.
He stressed the importance of the forthcoming election to the state’s future, urging residents not to miss the opportunity to vote.
“I encourage all registered voters to go to all the collection points without delay. Your vote is your power. Your voters card is your licence to the ballot paper and, by extension, to the ballot box,” Adeleke said.
