The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has called on the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to prevent a breakdown of law and order ahead of the planned resumption of Peoples Democratic Party local government officials.
It would be recalled that the PDP chairmen and councillors elected on February 22, 2025, announced through their counsel, Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, that they would resume at council secretariats following Monday’s Federal High Court judgment.
The court had sacked officials elected at the twilight of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration.
But Osun APC, in a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said the Supreme Court had earlier declared the February 22 PDP officials “unknown to the law”.
The party accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of directing the officials to invade the councils despite the legal pronouncement.
The APC also accused Osun NLC Chairman, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, of repeating the alleged directive.
Olabisi claimed Arapasopo “has turned himself into the re-election campaign manager of Governor Adeleke” for the next governorship election.
The party stated that its chairmen and councillors elected on October 15, 2022, have filed a notice of appeal at the appellate court after Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi of the Federal High Court ruled last week that their three-year tenure ended in October 2025.
According to Olabisi, constitutional practice bars any party from executing a judgment once an appeal and application for stay of execution have been filed.
“It is the law that once an appeal and an application for stay of execution of a judgment have been filed, no party is allowed to proceed,” he said.
The party urged security agencies to hold Governor Adeleke and Arapasopo responsible if violence erupts.
“We are enjoining the state police command and other sister security services to be on alert to arrest any disgruntled elements whose mission is to disturb public peace under the guise of politics,” APC stated.
