LG Crisis: Osun govt asks police to back elected PDP chairmen

Osun State Government has asked the police to provide security for PDP council chairmen and local government staff to allow smooth resumption at council secretariats statewide.

The request was contained in a letter dated June 18, 2026, sent to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone XI, by MUSIBAU ADETUNBI (SAN) & Co.

Signed by Oluwabusola Oluwaniyi, the letter referenced a Federal High Court ruling delivered in Osogbo on Monday, June 15, 2026, by Hon. Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi.

The court dismissed the tenure elongation suit filed by sacked APC council chairmen who had been occupying LG secretariats.

According to the solicitors, the sacked chairmen sought to remain in office, have the Feb 22, 2025, LG election voided, invalidate the oath of office of the elected chairmen, stop their removal from secretariats, and compel police to keep providing them security.

“All the reliefs specifically sought by them were expressly refused by the court and their Originating Summons dismissed in its entirety,” the letter stated.

The lawyers also stressed that no court has issued any order staying the judgment.

“We must add that there has not been any order by any court staying the decision or granting any injunction against the implementation of the judgment, as filing of an appeal or an application for stay is not itself an order of court to restrain implementation of the judgment,” it read.
