Osun Amotekun dismisses reports of officer’s death in Ondo accident

The Osun Amotekun Corps has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that one of its officers died in a road accident while travelling to a duty post in Ondo State.

In a press release on Wednesday, signed by its Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu, the corps described the allegation as entirely false, misleading, and without any factual basis.

The corps said at no time was any officer involved in a road accident while travelling to Ondo State or any other location.

According to the statement, the late officer, Adediji Abdullah, died after a brief illness while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Osogbo.

Amotekun said relatives of the deceased confirmed this to the corps, and no accident report was made to its headquarters.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Corps had earlier addressed similar allegations in a previous press statement and clearly established the facts surrounding the unfortunate demise of Officer Adediji Abdullah,” the statement noted.

Amotekun condemned the spread of unverified information and accused unnamed individuals of attempting to “exploit a sensitive matter for political advantage and to create unnecessary controversy around a security institution.”

The corps urged the public to disregard the claims and refrain from sharing unverified reports capable of misleading the public and causing unnecessary tension.

It also called on those behind the false information to desist and embrace responsible communication.
