The Osun State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement against vehicles and motorcycles with covered, defaced, fake, or unregistered number plates.
The operation, which started on Monday, according to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, complies with a directive from the Inspector-General of Police.
Ojelabi said the enforcement aims to strengthen security, improve public safety, and deny criminals the anonymity they often exploit through obscured or fake plates.
“Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to impound any vehicle found in violation and carry out thorough investigations.
“The directive also covers vehicles with improperly issued, altered, or unauthorised registration plates,” Ojelabi noted.
The Command urged motorists, transport operators, and fleet owners to ensure their vehicles bear valid, duly issued, and clearly visible number plates at all times.
Police stressed that the exercise is not targeted at harassing law-abiding citizens, but at boosting law enforcement’s ability to identify vehicles, investigate crimes, and track suspects.
“This is to enhance our capacity to identify vehicles, investigate crimes, track suspects, and strengthen the security architecture of Osun State,” the statement read.
