Gunmen have abducted the vice chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State, Debo Faroumbi.
The attackers, it was gathered, stormed the community on Tuesday night, shooting sporadically into the air and causing panic among residents.
The gunmen reportedly picked four residents, including two Fulani women, a resident, and Mr Faroumbi.
However, troops stationed in the town quickly resisted the assailants. Security operatives pursued the gunmen relentlessly, forcing them to abandon three of the victims. The attackers escaped with only the council vice chairman into the forest.
Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, who confirmed the incident, said the command has launched a manhunt for the suspects to rescue the abducted official.
“Yes, some yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed Ora-Igbomina in Ifedayo Local Government, abducting four persons. But military engagement forced them to abandon three victims.
“They eventually succeeded in taking Debo Faroumbi into the forest with them, and police and other security agencies have launched a manhunt for the suspects,” he said.
