Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday, launched the Imole Canvassers’ Group at Ijebu Jesa, Oriade local government of Osun state.
The event was organised by the Accord candidate for Obokun/Oriade federal constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi.
osun.life reports that the event was held despite an earlier statement by the state police command, directing that all political parties should suspend rallies, campaigns, processions and gatherings in Oriade Local Government Area on Wednesday, citing credible intelligence and failed peace talks.
The police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, had in the statement said the directive was a proactive step to prevent breakdown of law and order in the council ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
“The Osun State Police Command wishes to advise all political parties, candidates, supporters, and all stakeholders that, based on credible intelligence and security concerns within Oriade Local Government Area, the Commissioner of Police advises all political parties to postpone their planned political gatherings, rallies, campaigns, processions, and all other politically related activities scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 10th June, 2026, within Oriade Local Government Area to a new date,” the release stated.
The statement noted that the Command tried to mediate between the parties, but the effort collapsed.
“The Command’s effort to mediate peace failed due to non-cooperative attitude of some parties, as all efforts by the Command to foster peace ended in a deadlock. The peace meeting earlier scheduled and called by the Commissioner of Police with the concerned political parties could not hold,” he explained.
“This proactive measure is aimed at preventing any breach of peace/breakdown of law and order, maintaining public order, and protecting the lives and property of residents of the area,” Ojelabi added.
According to the organiser of the event, the Imole Canvassers, who are 10,000 in number, will carry the good governance messages of Governor Ademola Adeleke to all corners of the federal constituency and Osun East as a whole.
