Gunmen shoot Accord party chairman in Osogbo

The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, was reportedly shot by suspected gunmen in a late-night attack in Osogbo.

The attack, according to report, occurred at about 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday around the Community Bank axis of the MDS area in Osogbo.

The development threw residents into panic as heavily armed assailants reportedly fired several shots at Ajibola’s vehicle.

The gunmen, according to reports, repeatedly shot at a blue Toyota Corolla carrying Ajibola and his friends, riddling the vehicle with bullets in what witnesses described as a coordinated operation.

The Accord Party chieftain was said to have sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital), Osogbo, where he remains on the danger list and is receiving treatment.

Reacting to the incident, the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the attack and called on security agencies to ensure those responsible are identified and prosecuted.

Describing the shooting as unfortunate, Alimi urged the police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.

“It is an unfortunate incident which should not be allowed to go uninvestigated. The culprits must be brought to book,” Alimi said.

“We are therefore calling on the police to carry out their investigation, professionally, without fear or favour in unearthing the masterminds of the attack, which, from all available indices, has elements of political colourations,” Alimi added.
