Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied allegations that his administration concluded arrangements to procure weapons for thugs, accusing the Osun All Progressives Congress of already raising and deploying armed thugs terrorising and killing Accord members.
osun.life reports that the APC gubernatorial campaign council had earlier accused the state government of plan to equip thugs ahead of the August 15 election.
But the governor, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, described the allegations as “a ploy to divert attention from Osun APC’s violent conduct from destruction of Accord billboards to physical assaults on many Accord members”.
Adeleke reiterated that his party and government enjoy the overwhelming support of the masses and are set to win the August 15 polls.
The statement specifically absolved the Chief of Staff to the Governor, the Amotekun Commander and other government functionaries of any plot to buy arms for thugs.
“The Osun state government operates within the bounds of the law and due process,” the statement noted, adding that the allegation is “irresponsible, unfounded and libellous.”.
Governor Adeleke called on the Presidency and national security apparatus to ignore what he termed “false alarms by the Osun APC.
“Governor Adeleke is a man of peace who is set to be re-elected by the grace of God and Osun people,” the statement added.
