Woman reportedly dies from injuries sustained during violent Osun Accord HoR primary

A woman, identified as Mrs Taleatu Simbiat from Gidigbo Ward 3, has reportedly died from injuries she sustained during the violence that erupted at the Accord Party House of Representatives primary election for the Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency held yesterday at the Iwo City Secretariat.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, one of the aspirants for the federal constituency under the party, Engr. Ayodeji Lukman Bello, described the loss as heartbreaking and a painful reminder of the devastating consequences of political violence.

“Democracy should never come at the cost of human lives. Every citizen deserves to participate in the democratic process without fear, intimidation, or violence,” he stated.

He called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, and all relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, demanding that those responsible be identified and brought to justice regardless of their status or political affiliation.

“No one is above the law, regardless of status, position, or political affiliation. Justice must be served, not only for the deceased and her family but also to reinforce the principle that violence has no place in our democracy,” he said.
