Oyo Abduction: Salam urges FG to deploy special emergency force

Bamidele Salam, the member representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, has urged the federal government to deploy a special emergency force to rescue abducted Oyo students and teachers still held by terrorists.

This was as he called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity.

The lawmaker in a post on his Facebook on Sunday, said he does not think the rescue of the victims is getting the kind of urgent attention required.

Salam said, “I do not think President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu or Governor Seyi Makinde would be happy with the horrifying conditions of the children and teachers still being held by terrorists in some dingy forest somewhere on the soil of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

“But I do not think the rescue of these victims is getting the kind of urgent attention required,” the lawmaker added.

The lawmaker expressed concern that Nigeria’s leadership lacks the political will to decisively confront what he described as “this rampaging evil.”

He noted that insecurity has worsened over the last 17 years due to the absence of a robust security framework.

“It is regrettable that no government in the last 17 years has been able to fashion out a robust security architecture to curtail the activities of the criminal-minded groups in our midst. Rather, the problem has festered, gained momentum and crossed boundaries over the years,” he stated.

To address the crisis, Salam urged the Federal Government to suspend other priorities and focus solely on security for 6 to 12 months.

“I think it is time the Federal Government declares a state of emergency on insecurity in Nigeria. Let us suspend everything suspendable and face this one problem within a timeframe of 6 to 12 months,” he said.

It would be recalled that scores of teachers and students were abducted during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area of the state, penultimate Friday.
