Disregard rumour, I am loved in Osogbo – Basiru

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has dispelled the rumour that the people of his hometown – Osogbo, do not love him, adding that he won in Osogbo and Olorunda local government despite being in the opposition during the National Assembly elections in 2023.

This was as he appealed to members of the party in Osun State to work hard for the victory of the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Bola Oyebamiji in the August 15 election.

The former Osun Central Senator stated this on Friday when he hosted Local Government Education Authority Chairmen and Board Members at his residence in Osogbo.

He noted that he lost his re-election bid in 2023 because Governor Ademola Adeleke became the governor of Osun State in 2022.

The APC national scribe, said, “If there is anyone who has the chance to win the National Assembly seat in 2023, it was I, Ajibola Basiru. However, because we are not in power at the state level, it became very hard.

“Some people are saying I was not loved in Osogbo, that is a big lie. Despite being in the opposition, I won at Osogbo and Olorunda.

“We must work hard towards the governorship election. I am not part of those saying we want to “throw the ball into an empty goalpost”.

“I don’t believe in automatic winning. There is nothing like that. Wherever we ought to work, we should work and we should ensure we beg those who are angry.”
