A former lawmaker who represented Ijesa South federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Lawrence Ayeni, has announced his withdrawal from the 2027 race.
Ayeni who is seeking to return to the Green Chamber under the All Progressives Congress in a statement he posted on his Facebook page on Saturday morning, said he withdrew from the race after consultations with party leaders, critical stakeholders, elders, and supporters across the constituency.
He said his decision was made to place the unity, peace, and collective strength of the APC and victory at the forthcoming gubernatorial election above every personal ambition.
He wrote, “With deep gratitude to God Almighty, my family, loyal supporters, political associates, and the good people who have stood firmly with me throughout this journey, I wish to formally announce my withdrawal from the forthcoming APC House of Representatives Primaries scheduled for Saturday, 16th May 2026.
“This decision was not made lightly. After wide consultations with respected party leaders, critical stakeholders, elders, and supporters across our constituency, I have chosen to place the unity, peace, and collective strength of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the victory of the forthcoming gubernatorial election above every personal ambition.
“As leaders, there are moments when sacrifice becomes necessary for the greater good. I strongly believe that true leadership is not only measured by the desire to serve in office, but also by the wisdom to make difficult decisions that preserve harmony, progress, and the future of our party.
“God’s time is always the best. I remain fully committed to the ideals, vision, and continued success of our great party, the APC. I therefore call on all my supporters, youths, women, elders, and political associates to remain calm, peaceful, steadfast, and united as we continue to work together for the progress of our people and the victory of our party.
“This is not the end of the journey. Service to humanity remains my lifelong commitment, and I will continue to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of our constituency and our dear state. I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming love, encouragement, prayers, and support shown to me throughout this process. May God bless you all abundantly.”
Also, an aspirant for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Tele Oyegoke, has also withdrawn from the race.
Oyegoke in a statement, said he withdrew to align fully with the consensus candidate chosen by the party.
He said, “After extensive consultations with party elders, ward executives, stakeholders, and supporters across our federal constituency, I have made the personal and voluntary decision to align fully with the consensus candidate chosen by the party. This decision was not taken lightly, and I trust it will not go unnoticed by the powers that be.
“It followed honest conversations, careful consideration of the interests of our people, and a clear commitment to the greater good of the All Progressives Congress and our constituency. My priority has always been the unity and progress of the APC above personal ambition, because a divided house weakens our chances and delays development for our people.
“By standing behind the consensus candidate, we present a united front, avoid needless division, and focus our energy on winning the general election and delivering good governance. I therefore call on all my supporters, coordinators, and well-wishers to embrace this decision in the spirit of party discipline and collective purpose.
“Let us close ranks, mobilise as one, and work together to ensure victory for the APC and progress for every community in our federal constituency. The work ahead is bigger than any individual, and together we will build a stronger party and a better future for our people.
