The immediate past speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has emerged as the consensus candidate for Ilesa East state constituency under the All Progressives Congress.
Owoeye was endorsed at a stakeholders meeting held on Thursday in Ilesa.
The motion for his endorsement as the consensus candidate was moved by Mr Babalola Kehinde, APC chairman in Ward 9, Ilesa East local government.
Speaking during the meeting, the leader of the APC in Ijesa South Federal Constituency, Elder Kunle Odeyemi, said the choice of Owoeye was to ensure stability in the system due to his wealth of experience as a lawmaker.
He noted that Owoeye if elected, would bring tremendous growth to Ilesa East.
Odeyemi while admonishing other aspirants, said, “We did not say Timothy should return because we don’t have other capable hands but in Ilesa East, we don’t want to go backwards,” the APC chieftain stated.
Hon. Owoeye is a grassroots politician and he started his political career as a Councillor of Ward 10 Ilesa East, Osun State between 1999 and 2002.
He contested and won a seat at the Osun State House of Assembly in 2007. He was the Minority Leader of the House from 2007 to 2011, Leader of the House between 2011 and 2015 and Majority Leader of the House between 2015 and 2019.
In 2019, Owoeye emerged as the 7th speaker of the state House of Assembly, a position he served until 2023.
Other notable stakeholders at the stakeholders meeting include, Hon. Tunde Faleye (Falex), Hon. Idowu Falade, Hon. Yele Akintola, Hon. Dosu Gidigbi, Hon. Sayo Abimbola, Hon. Akeem Olowoopejobori, Hon. Olowoofoyeku Ayotunde, Hon. Lanre Balogun, Ilesa East LG Chairman, Hon. Akinola Fowowe, Ilesa East APC Chairman among others.
