Oyebamiji’s statement reads in parts: “death had taken away an unrepentant and inimitable fearless soul who always speaks the truth to power no matter whose ox is gored.
“Baba was a special being – an encyclopedia of wisdom and repository of knowledge whose divine intellect had imparted and greatly impacted humanity. As an Islamic cleric with a difference, Sheikh Illiyas was known for distinction, exceptionality and fearlessness in propagating the religion of Islam and Islamic evangelism while on the planet earth. He was a good and loving father who cared for everyone around him. As a unifier, Baba’s commitment and devotion to continued unity and peace among the people can not be quantified. He will be missed for his kindness and counselling which many of us had benefited from while alive.
“Crossing paths with him was a blessing to many of us who directly benefited from his God-given wisdom and generosity as he lived a pious and exemplary life that was devoted to the service of Allah and humanity.
“I commiserate with the immediate family in particular, the Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasahun as well as all Muslim Ummah in Osogbo and members of Osun Muslim Community in general on the passing of our beloved father. I pray Allah to forgive his shortcomings and admit him into the finest abode -Aljanah Firdau.”
