APC: Clamour grows for Odo Otin to produce HoR candidate

The call for Odo-Otin local government to produce the next House of Representatives candidate for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin federal constituency is growing daily.

Various political, non-political, and civil society organisations have called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to zone the federal constituency ticket to the local government for the sake of fairness and equity.

The groups noted that since the return of democracy in 1999, the constituency has been represented by either Ifelodun or Boripe Local Governments, adding that Odo Otin has only produced one Representative since 1999.

The current lawmaker representing the constituency under the Accord Party, Hon. Olusoji Abidemi Adetunji, hails from Ifelodun local government.

According to available records, other lawmakers who represented the federal constituency are – Hon. Abioye Oyetunji from Ifelodun LG (1999 to 2003); Hon. Ranti Alabi from Odo Otin LG (2003 to 2005); Hon. Kayode Idowu from Boripe LG (2005 to 2011); Hon. Adeyanju Adeyinka Ajayi from Boripe LG (2011 to 2015); Hon. Adeyanju Adeyinka Ajayi from Boripe LG (2015 to 2019) and Hon. Rasheed Afolabi from Ifelodun LG (2019 to 2023).

The record shows that Odo-Otin local government had a House of Representatives member for 30 months, a situation those calling for the ticket said must be addressed for balanced representation among the three local governments.

osun.life reports that Bello Adegboyega Basheer (BABS), Teleola Michael Oyegoke (TMO) and Francis Damilare Eniade who are all from the local government have shown interest in contesting the House of Representatives seat in the forthcoming election.

Meanwhile, one of the groups clamouring for the Reps ticket, Odo-Otin Youth Vanguard, has urged the leadership of the APC to micro zone it to Inisa community.

The group in a statement by its coordinator, Abiodun Damilare, said Inisa has the highest voting strength in the local government with four wards.

Damilare said zoning the ticket to Inisa, the home town of Chief Shuaib Oyedokun, would ensure massive victory for the APC in the federal constituency.

“For equity Odo Otin should get the ticket. However, getting the ticket is not alone, the party should micro zone it to Inisa which is a progressive community with the highest voting strength in the local government,” Damilare noted.
