The Osun State Police Command on Friday, confirmed the arrest of one Adebayo Akanbi, who allegedly murdered a commercial motorcyclist, Tiramiyu Afeez.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, in a statement, said the suspect was apprehended by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.
He noted that Afeez’s body was discovered earlier in February along the Ojo-Ara-Ejigbo road with the motorcycle recovered from the suspect.
According to the statement, “The case was initially reported at ‘A’ Division, Ede, on February 23, 2026, after the deceased left home on February 21 for his routine commercial motorcycle operations but failed to return.
“Efforts made to trace his whereabouts proved abortive until information was received that a police patrol team from Awo Division discovered an unidentified corpse lying in a pool of blood.”
The police said the corpse was later identified by family members as that of Afeez, with preliminary findings indicating that his throat had been slit with a knife.
Following the development, the case was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo for detailed investigation.
The statement disclosed that “through intelligence gathering and technological analysis, detectives tracked and arrested the suspect on April 18, 2026, and recovered the deceased’s Bajaj motorcycle along with two ignition keys”.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having contacted the deceased by phone and lured him to the Ara-Ejigbo axis, where he attacked and killed him before making away with the motorcycle.”
The police revealed that the suspect admitted disposing of the knife used in the crime as well as the victim’s mobile phone.
