Youths in Ikoyi Community in Osun State have called on the state governor, Ademola Adeleke and the leadership of the Accord Party to ensure that the House of Assembly ticket for Irewole/Isokan State Constituency of the party in the 2027 poll is given to Isokan Local Government Area.
The youths said it was already being insinuated that Adeleke was planning to give automatic ticket to all current House of Assembly members who defected to the Accord Party from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Ikoyi Community Youth Leader, Orolade Ibidola, who spoke on behalf of the youth, said the current lawmaker representing the constituency, Abiola Inaolaji, is from Irewole Local Government, declaring that Isokan must be allowed to produce the next lawmaker for the constituency.
“We are appealing to the Accord party stakeholders to please, for the sake of equity and fairness, return the ticket to Isokan. In our constituency, we have two local governments producing one House of Assembly member. So, ever since the creation of Osun state in 1991, there has been a bilateral agreement to avoid any internal crisis that the candidature will be rotated every four years between the two local governments irrespective of political party and we have been maintaining that ever since.
“Now, there is an indication that is flying around that Governor Adeleke is planning to retain all the House of Assembly members who decamped with him to the Accord Party. This arrangement does not sit well with us. The current Lawmaker representing the constituency is from Irewole and it is the turn of Isokan,” Ibidola said.
He also called on the opposition All Progressives Congress to zone its House of Representatives ticket to Ikoyi, noting that the community has been consistently overlooked whenever positions of authority are being filled.
“We are appealing to the leadership of the APC to zone the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election to Ikoyi. Our town has been consistently overlooked for any meaningful appointments or elective posts,” Ibidola further said.
