The annual Moses Layiwola Adeoti Junior tennis championship has commenced at Osogbo Tennis Club, Osogbo, Osun State capital.
The tournament is organised to celebrate the founder and chairman of Abake Medical Centre, Professor Moses Layiwola Adeoti.
Speaking during the opening of the tournament, Prof Adeoti, said the event was organised for young people to channel their energy in the right way.
The medical professional who noted that table tennis is a game of discipline, said his aim is to continue to host the tournament yearly.
He said, “I enjoy celebrating my birthday with you. When we were young, there were Physically Education in schools where we burnt energy.
“Nowadays, these children take a lot of energy foods and they have excess energy which if not directed properly, can misbehave.
“That is why I decided that we should get these children engaged in sports so that they can burn those excess calories and table tennis is a game of discipline.
“My prayer is that as long as I am alive, God will give me the grace to do it every year. I hope you’re going to enjoy the tournament this year.”
