Owa hold meeting with politicians in Ijesaland, calls for peaceful elections

The Owa-in-Council on Friday, held a meeting with representatives of political parties in Osun State with a view to having a rancour free elections in Ijesaland.

This was as the council reportedly invoked divine retribution on any politician who instigates violence in Ijesaland before, during and after the forthcoming elections in Osun State.

A post by Isaac Haastrup, an aide to Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Haastrup, said the monarch, during the meeting, indicated that the retribution was necessitated by the political events unfolding in Ilesa, which allegedly resulted in the deaths of three individuals under questionable circumstances.

“Following the accounts of representatives from each major political party in Ijesaland, which exposed a looming crisis in certain quarters, the Owa Obokun instructed the Ogboni of Ilesa to pronounce divine judgment on the criminally inclined individuals orchestrating the crisis,” the post noted.

Also speaking, the Elegboro of Ijebujesa, Oba Olufemi Agunsoye urged political leaders in Ijesaland to refrain from engaging in do-or-die politics and cease endangering the lives of youths by engaging them to perpetrate evil during the electioneering campaign.

Speaking on behalf of the police, the Ilesa Area Commander, ACP Ali assured of police impartiality, stating that no political thug would be treated with leniency.

In attendance were representatives of Accord party, African Democratic Congress, All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.
