2026: Adeoti may work with Adeleke after withdrawal from Omoluabi Progressives

By Tunde Olamilekan

A former secretary to the Osun State government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, may work for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, osun.life gathered.

Adeoti recently resigned from the Omoluabi Progressives, a group loyal to the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Adeoti, who was the deputy leader of the group, announced his resignation in a November 30th letter addressed to the chairman of the group, Alhaji Isaa Adesiji.

The letter reads, “I, Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti, the Deputy Leader of Omoluabi Progressives in Osun State, hereby tender this letter of withdrawal from the group, which I co-founded with other Progressive-minded individuals across the state.

“This also includes my complete withdrawal from all the group activities henceforth.

“My decision to withdraw was never an easy one, especially each time I looked back and considered all my investments into ensuring the survival of the group throughout its turbulent period from its inception to date.

“Coupled with this has been the pressure from my family members, both immediate and extended, on the need to take an immediate short rest from all political activities.

“I want to specially thank everyone of my fellow Progressives for the level of trust reposed in me while in the group and wishing the current leadership success in all the group’s future endeavours.”

Even though the Iwo-born politician said there has been pressure from his family on the need to take an immediate short rest from all political activities, osun.life reliably gathered that Adeoti resigned because he did not get the nod as the ADC aspirant from the Omoluabi Progressives caucus.

A former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Najeem Salaam emerged as the group’s gubernatorial aspirant ahead of the African Democratic Congress gubernatorial primaries slated for December 10.

Following his resignation from the group, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, visited Adeoti at his country home in Iwo alongside some lawmakers.

Sources privy to the meeting disclosed that Egbedun and the lawmakers informed the former SSG that he would be welcomed to team up with the Governor’s group and work for his re-election.

They said Adeoti already had a relationship with the current administration through the lawmaker representing Iwo State Constituency, Hon. Rabiu Atanda, who is his political son.

“The courtesy visit to Alhaji Adeoti was to ask him to join the governor’s team and work for his re-election. I understand the APC is also looking at him coming back to the party.

“Adeoti already have a relationship with the present administration. He nominated the current lawmaker representing Iwo State Constituency after helping Adeleke to win the last election.

“I don’t think Adeoti will make a quick decision. I think he will take his time, weigh up his options before deciding on where he will move to. One thing that is looking likely now is that his gubernatorial aspiration might not come to fruition,” one of the sources told osun.life.

This is not the first time that Adeoti will be leaving a platform because of his inability to secure a gubernatorial nomination.

In 2018, Adeoti resigned as the SSG under the administration of Aregbesola and the All Progressives Congress for the Action Democratic Party (ADP), after former governor Gboyega Oyetola emerged as favourite for the APC ticket.

He contested the gubernatorial election under the ADP, where he came fourth with 49,745 votes.
